Charli XCX says she’s a fan of Simon Cowell but not a fan of his musical acts.
The 22-year old singer hopes to one day set up her own label like the X Factor judge, but clearly isn’t a fan of the songs released by SyCo acts like One Direction, Susan Boyle or Little Mix.
‘I think Simon Cowell’s cool, I’d love to be in that position, but from the point of view of making music that’s not s***,’ Charli told Q magazine.
The goth pop star got her big break after collaborating with Icona Pop on the single I Love It, which grew in popularity after appearing in an episode of HBO’s Girls.
Her first number one didn’t come until after she had released two major label albums, when she co-wrote the song Fancy with Iggy Azalea.
Despite her poppy situation in the music industry, Charli says that she found it hard to pen songs for the genre, so spent time in Sweden to produce a purely punk record.
She told Q magazine: ‘I couldn’t make any pop music because I hated pop music. I just didn’t want to think about it I wanted to be free.
‘It was a case of getting it out of my system. I felt stuck.’
Charli recently released her new single, Doing It, featuring Rita Ora with a music video that sees them playing seventies style armed robbers.
