X Factor winners Little Mix are set to lose their chart battle with the Military Wives choir after betting on the Christmas number one was suspended.

The 100-strong choir were favourites to take the top spot with their heartfelt record Wherever You Are which was inspired by letters home written by husbands and boyfriends serving in Afghanistan.
Although Little Mix managed to top the singles chart on Sunday with their cover of Damien Rice’s Cannonball, the wives had already become Amazon’s most pre-ordered track.
Yesterday X Factor boss Simon Cowell conceded defeat in the chart battle, writing on his Twitter page: ‘Congrats to Little Mix & congrats to Military Wives . It’s a great cause & a worthy Christmas No.1.’
Now it seems victory is assured for Gareth Malone’s choir, with bookmakers Ladbrokes suspending betting on the Christmas number one.

The choir had been 1/20 favourites to take the coveted festive top spot, but the bookmakers pulled the plug on bets due to the sheer volume of punters putting money on the Military Wives.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: ‘As far as punters are concerned it’s a done deal. The money says the Military Wives will deservedly get this year’s Christmas number one.’
It wont be the first time an X Factor winner has lost out on the festive accolade to an underdog.
In 2009 Joe McElderry was pipped to the post by Rage Against The Machine after a Facebook campaign against manufactured artists.
The news comes after it was revealed Little Mix’s debut single achieved the worst first week sales for an X Factor champion’s winning song since Steve Brookstein’s Against All Odds in 2004.
